Submersible well pumps are the most common types of pumps used for well water applications. They are installed to sit submerged in water. Submersible pumps have two distinct advantages, they do not have to draw water up like an old style jet pump and they are efficient as they use multiple impellers to deliver the water to its end user from the well. Because of these advantages, submersible pumps can deliver a higher flow rate and more pressure with less horsepower.
Submersible pumps can range from ½ HP up to a 1,000 HP. Most residential applications are from ½ HP to 7-1/2 HP. In addition to horsepower, residential applications have a flow range from 5 gallons per minute to 35 gallons per minute. Depending on usange, submersible pumps have an average life-span of 15 years.
