Water Holding Tank System

Why do I need a water holding tank system?

Water well users are limited in the volume of water they can use at any one time. This limitation is referred to as the yield of the well, measured in gallons per minute. Every well is different and therefore, each will perform differently than another. Because of this, there is no standard yield for a well. While some large irrigation wells will produce 1,500 gallons per minute, smaller wells may only produce 1 gallon per minute.

For residential use, we recommend a well that yields at least 5 gallons per minute to meet the average household’s water demands. Wells that produce less than 5 gallons per minute are known as a low yielding wells and must be corrected by drilling a replacement well, fixing the existing well, or installing a water holding tank system.

How it works

A water holding tank system works by creating a reservoir from the low yielding well. By installing a reservoir tank (ranging from 300 gallons up to 5,000 gallons), we are able to slowly draw water from the low producing well into the tank, creating a reservoir to serve a households high water demands or irrigation needs. Tanks can be installed as above ground poly tanks or below ground concrete cisterns. We recommend a standard reservoir minimum of 2500 gallons of water but this can change depending on your households needs. A booster pump is then installed to pressurize the water from the holding to the point of use. As added protection we also install a run dry protection for both the booster pump and the well pump in the case that either run out of water.
